Concrete Works
We can also meet your concrete needs. From new installation of curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, to repair of existing facilities, we are available to address any needs you may have.
Concrete plays an important role in parking lot and roadway systems:
- Curbs. Concrete curbs can be either cast-in-place or extruded. The latter is placed on top of the asphalt after paving is completed. While not as durable as cast-in-place concrete, extruded curbing is very cost-effective, especially when adding curbing to existing parking lots.
- Sidewalks are most often constructed of concrete, primarily for its ability to maintain a straight, rigid edge. Although sometimes used in applications such as golf courses, asphalt sidewalks are usually impractical to install.
- Driveway Approaches are the pathway between parking lots and streets. While appearing to be little more than a sidewalk with the curb removed, approaches are significant concrete structures that are designed to withstand considerable traffic.
- Valley Gutters are used to carry water down the middle of parking lots and roadways, especially where drainage is slight, and where water moves frequently or slowly. Concrete can be installed with more precise elevation control than asphalt, making it a better candidate for carrying water where very slight drainage or slope exists. In older parking lots that have poor drainage, concrete valley gutters can often be installed as a retrofit to improve the flow of rainwater and reduce further pavement deterioration.
- Dumpster Pads. Where dumpsters are emptied frequently, a concrete dumpster pad is a better alternative to asphalt. When garbage trucks lift loaded dumpsters into the air to dump them, the loads on the pavement from the front tires of the truck are enormous, localized, and repetitive. The rigid surface that concrete provides distributes that load across a wide area, reducing the stress on the soils beneath to a level that they are able to bear without displacement.
